50 Years of Partnership
Bangladesh and the World Bank.
Bangladesh has an inspiring story of growth and development. From being one of the poorest nations at birth, today, Bangladesh is one of the world's fastest growing economies. It has reduced poverty in record time and achieved lower middle-income status within four decades.
Since independence, the World Bank has been a steadfast partner. The World Bank was among the first development partners of Bangladesh and in the last five decades, it has committed over $38.9 billion financing to help Bangladesh achieve its growth and development aspirations. Currently, the World Bank is the country’s largest development partner and Bangladesh has the largest IDA program of the World Bank.
